I have a neighbor whose father died almost 1 year ago. The father had a life insurance policy, however never gave him the policy # but the son was listed as a beneficiary. Somehow the father failed to share this information. The father had a lawyer whom he dealt with and gave her the policy # and info. Now when the son went to claim the life insurance money which was a year ago, the lawyer gives him the run around and told him to just keep waiting by the mailbox. Does it take more than a year?? He is about to lose his home and has no money. Any advice..

My family and I are just trying to get a ballpark idea of how much my sister's car insurance would go up if we made a claim on an accident she had. She was in a mall parking lot and pulled out to make a left turn. I think she didn't really see a car coming, but I also think the car was zipping around the lot at a too-fast speed. My sister got hit in her driver's door and needs a new door and the frame of the car needs pulled out. There are no witnesses to really show who's fault it is, and I think it's a little of both judging by how much damage there is on her car (the other driver had to be going fast). There is no damage on the other person's car. It costs about $1500 to get it fixed (just the bare minimum - a new door from a junkyard and fixing the frame, just to make it safe and sealed, there will still be some dents). We're debating on claiming it or not because there is a $500 deductible. She is 25 years old and hasn't had an accident before. I just bought Home owners insurance through a company that shall not be named. While going over my coverage I asked should I photograph all my things and she said no. I said what if I don't have my receipt because I got it on trade or something, don't have a bill of sale or something and she directly told me: don't worry, you don't need an inventory of your property. Being sued by an insurance company, can my wages be garnished?

I was in a severe accident last year in which the damage done exceeded my coverage. Now, a year later, the other insurance company is suing me. Now, the odd thing about this is, the accident was in NJ, I now live in PA, and they cannot seem to find me. They've called my old jobs in NJ looking for me, but haven't found me here in PA. My husband is a full-time teacher. I work part-time and am a grad. student. He has great insurance for himself, but I have to pay for my own separately. So my friend and I were out driving his car and when he got out at a store, I hopped in the driver's seat. I have a class 5 license, so it's all legal there. We weren't speeding or doing anything illegal, we had nothing to hide, so everything was legit. However, pulling out of a four-way, an officer pulled us over because our tail lights were busted. Of course, I had no idea and basically the officer just issued a warning to my friend (he's the owner of the car, so he did most of the talking). There was nothing but politeness and courtesy exchanged in the end we just drove straight to the party we were headed to. At the party though, there was some guy who put his hand out to shake mine for Insurance rates going up . This guy's on an ego-trip so I had no care about what he had to say at all but now I'm kind of worried. Question: Did my insurance rates go up for driving without tail lights? I understand that, as driver, I'm fully responsible of the vehicle, but the owner was with me and so he doesn't have to be the one that gets tagged with the record for this??? Car Insurance think my car is a write-off but independent garage think otherwise?

Canada car insurance -- am I getting screwed?

Our 1990 GMC truck (average condition -- nothing special!) was vandalized about two months ago. The punks damaged the doors so badly trying to get in that our insurance co. was going to write it off. Aside from the doors, the truck is perfectly fine (runs great), so Hubby spoke to the adjuster who promised us a cash settlement , and said he wouldn't write the vehicle off. We got a chq in the mail, and used some of it to put new doors on the truck (it's not pretty, but we don't really care). NOW we got a letter from AB Transport saying that the truck is salvage, and no longer legal to drive. Insurance wrote it off! The cash is gone (spent very wisely -- don't judge!), and now we are being forced to buy a new truck. Insurance told Hubby that we didn't have a choice , but I thinks that's bogus. Hubby signed papers for the cash settlement, but nothing for the write off. CAN THEY DO THAT? What are our rights?

They told me they couldn't renew my policy but they have a buddy company that can give me an insurance policy. So they get all my info and they quoted me 730 dollars a month! Dealing with insurance company after accident and trading my repaired car?

I have had a car accident caused by someone else in california last year in August. Now I am trying to trade in my car bmw but they said the car is not tradable due to the carfax showing that it has structural damages. The dealers offer me to get a new loan with them and let my lender repossess the car. They said i cant trade in my car now the book value is too low compared to what I owe on it. any suggestions? Can I go after the insurance company for damages because i cant get rid of my car now... or what can I do to get into a different car. The bmw i costing too much to repair

California health insurance?

I am looking to get health insurance for a year, more to take care of neglected issues than to cover my butt if I get sick/hurt (I'm 27, betting on youth and good health!). Kaiser seems to be the most appealing because they cover a broader range of services. I am namely interested in physical therapy (winged scapula), dermatology (oily skin/acne), perhaps mental illness services as I have suffered from depression (although I somewhat consider it a problem of my past). I'm aware insurance plans won't cover preexisting conditions, but how can they really prove these issues didn't start yesterday, right? I'm overwhelmed with my choices. Is it worth paying $330/mo for $0 deductible, 0% coinsurance, $40 co pays and a max out of pocket @ $3000? Or is it smarter to pay $166/mo, $2700 deductible, 0% coinsurance, $0 co pays after deductible, and max out of pocket @ $5000 (including deductible)? Etc. I have put off getting insurance because I'm scared I will pick a completely inappropriate plan. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
